@@Mother Nature is back with a vengeance. It. Is. Cold.@@
@@I don't know about you, but when I hear cold weather I think of onions.@@
Okay, so what I really mean is, I think of layers. It seems like labels aren't putting out warm fabrics for afforable prices, and it's not too often that you find cashmere on clearance. So during the winter months, I always start of my look with basics: a long-sleeved shirt and a pair of leggings.
@@Coco Note: You should never have to sacrifice fabulosity for warmth or comfort.@@
I got this coat at a thrift store in Boston while shopping with my aunt. It's a little big for me and the print is extra, but that pretty much describes my personality so I needed it. The black and gold pattern is beautiful and the fabric has so much texture. The A-line shape also makes it perfect for almost any shape and any outift. Now that I had my focal piece and my core, I could move on to the first layer.
I have a love-hate relationship with turtlenecks. They keep you warm and are easy to pair with, but they tickle my neck! You really shouldn't have to sacrifice comfort for fabulosity either! Thank goodness for cowl necks.
When you think of winter colors, you probably envision black, gray, brown and other neutrals. @@Your look doesn't have to be as drab as the weather. @@ Add some color! @@You can add color to a winter look and keep it seasonally appropriate by drawing in some jewel tones.@@ Try deep reds, greens, violets, navys, etc.
I decided to go with an emerald green turtle neck. Again, it's all about double-duty! It appropriately adds color to this look, and will keep me warm. To go with the texture of the coat, I decided on a high-waist pair of corduroys.
Coco Note: Did you know they still made corduroys? Winning!
Leather and fur is my favorite winter combination, because it does double duty- it's fabulous AND warm. I haven't worn this vest in ages, and I didn't want to get rid of it, so I had to find a way to wear it. (Purge rule!) I also love layering fur over a coat, and the fur lining of the wide lapels on this vest lay perfectly over this coat.
@@Coco Note: Only thing faux about me is my fur!@@
I decided not to add any more colors to this look, so I threw on a gold, black and emerald necklace and black leather booties. Viola, a fabulous, warm onion!
Let me know whatcha think!
