Let's face it. We all want to look like the celebrities, but are we willing to pay celebrity money? Uhh, nah.
It's a good thing that where there's a will, there's a copy!
An inspired piece or look, if you will.
This look was inspired by one of my favorite Coco Gawdesses, Gabrielle Union.
Earlier this year Mrs. Wade wore this head-to-toe leather look to Def Jam 30, the record label's 30th Anniversary concert at the Barclay's center
Gabby, because we're clearly BFFS way past a first-name basis, wore a cream leather biker jacket, a quilted black and white slightly cropped top, a black leather mini skirt and black ankle boots.
I decided to remix this look using affordable pieces right out of my closet.
I love that Gabrielle Union (I should say her stylist, no shade!) kept this look monochromatic. When you're dealing with a lot of leather and mixing textures and patterns, it can become overwhelming when you start to mix in different colors.
I went for the same black and white pattern, leaning more towards black than white.
I chose to stick with what I had-- a black studded biker jacket from Forever 21. You guys have seen this jacket before and that's because it NEVER fails me. It has just enough detail to add interest to a look but doesn't overpower the simpler elements.
As a substitute for Gabrielle's quilted cropped sweater, I chose this sleeveless top from JCPenney. It has a similar quilted pattern across the neck and chest area and features a houndstooth-like panel down the middle, with black panels at the sides.
Although this top is a bit busy, with the different patterns and textures, it works out because the color palette is monochromatic!
Coco Note: Stay neutral!
For the bottom, I decided to ditch the quilted clutch look that Gabby went for to compliment her quilted top and, instead, I went for a quilted faux leather skirt from Target.
Coco Note: When I say I got this skirt for the low-low, honey child! It was less than $10.
With so many holiday events coming up, I decided to dress up the look a little more and pair it with my Zigi Soho black minimalist sandals.
Coco Note: Yes, I wear sandals in the winter. I'm about that life.
This look is perfect if you're somewhere where it's not so cold around this time (super jealous!). If not, you could definitely keep the look simple and pair this with ankle boots, and even add stockings to keep warm!
I want YOU to make your own Coco Copy and leave me a comment with a pic and details!
