If you haven’t heard the news, we’re doing yet another month-long challenge here on #TheCocoGawdess!
I announced a few days ago that I would be doing a No-Buy, No-Repeat challenge for the month of January, meaning I am not allowed to buy a single fashion item or wear any item more than ONCE. And yes, it is as rough as it sounds. In 2019, it’s cheers to masochism, I guess.
For Day 1 of the #CocosClosetCache challenge, I decided to pull out an oldie, but goodie. Plaid has been so in lately, it reminded me why you should never get rid of pieces with classic prints and silhouettes. Never forget that fashion is one huge cycle. here are very few things in life better than a classic print x classic color palette x classic silhouette combo. Issa TRIFECTA, sis. Like this gray and black, plaid, wool miniskirt WITH pockets. I purchased this skirt at a church flea market probably 13-14 years ago. By the grace of God, it still fits me!
For this look, I went for classic styling. What better to finish off this refined-schoolgirl look than a black turtleneck? Hello. I like this particular style of turtleneck because it’s actually a mock neck. For a look like this, a more modern approach to a traditional piece and traditional style can refresh the overall look and give it an updated feel. Mock necks definitely help provide a less-stuffy feel to a look like this one.
Now back to this miniskirt. One thing’s for sure, it’s definitely mini. With a skirt like this, I like to take advantage of the length (or lack thereof) and pair with a thigh-high or over-the-knee boot. OTK boots are such a necessity, I recommend having at least 3 versions: a black heel, a black flat and a color or print option.
Don’t forget to tag me in your #CocosClosetCache looks so I can share them on my instastories!
