The snow is coming down pretty heavily out there. While I didn't want to risk going into work today, we're #MakingFebruaryFabulous so it's still not a day off. It's a S[no]w Day Off.
It's definitely a "casual friday" kind of day. Boots and layers were a necessity. This neutral color combination is fall and winter-friendly and extremely easy to duplicate.
This H&M sweater is one of my favorites. Whenever I feel like a look is going to be too casual, I look for ways to dress up simple pieces. Thankfully, this chunky-knit, beige sweater has gold and pastel blue and pink threads that catch the light and give off a beautiful speckled look.
To dress it up, I added an army green wool jacket. Even though the specks of color in my sweater do catch the light every so often, the army green still works as a solid because it goes well with the base color (cream) and is not so bright that it competes. Although this jacket looks like a blazer, it's more of a sweater than anything. It's still a structured piece and takes the look up a notch, but doesn't stifle the "causal friday" feel.
A well-fitting pair of jeans is another "basic" wardrobe piece. Look for one in a medium wash and a classic cut when first building your denim inventory. Don't think you have to spend all your coin to do this, Old Navy and H&M have great denim options.
I threw in a few brown elements to complete the fall-like color palette, like this long-lined coat and my cognac lace-up boots with great grips for the snow.
