Oh black trousers, you forgotten child of fashion.
Why do we fail to acknowledge the importance of the one article of the clothing that is the most versatile and basic wardrobe essential? The very simplicity of it that makes us overlook a pair of black trousers is the very reason why it's so necessary. Regardless of your job title or industry, every woman should own the right pair of tailored black pants.
Coco Note: Keyword: tailored. If they didn't fit you quite well but you bought them anyway, we CAN fix that.
At the moment, the best pair of black pants for me is a skinny pant. I love a black trouser in a standout fabric like chiffon, or a satin dress-pant finish. Here, I'm pairing mine with a black, ribbed, off-the-shoulder bodysuit. With the mid-high rise of pants, I'm visually lengthening my legs (because I can't physically lengthen them) and creating balance between my legs and torso. The off-the-shoulder top elongates my décolleté, as the cut of the pant slims my frame on the bottom.
The trick with a simple pair of trousers is to pair it with a focus piece. A conversation-starter, so to speak. I love a long-lined cardigan in the cooler months, and this olive-green textured cardigan is the one. It also features specks of gold, which add extra flair to an otherwise simple look. The asymmetrical cut at the back is another detail that adds interest to the outfit.
