If there's anything the Kardashians are known for, it might be their ingenious ability to make full use of their connections.
It's pretty obvious that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have friends in high places, i.e Valentino Garavani, Riccardo Tisci, Anna Wintour, etc. It's no surprise that the couple is also close friends with Olivier Rousteing, Creative Director of Balmain Paris.
In the newest volume of How Kimye is Winning, Kim Kardashian-West and her husband, Kanye West, are the faces of Balmain Paris' Spring/Summer 2015 Menswear Collection ad campaign.
The couple was shot by world renowned fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti, with Creative Direction by Pascal Dangin at KiDs, a NYC based ad agency. Kimye is dressed in their signature looks. Kanye is dressed in what can only be described as super cool urban glam: a beaded poncho, chevron hoodie and double breasted tuxedo jacket with gold buttons and leather pants.
Meanwhile, Kim wears a pleated gown with a plunging draped neckline and a large black and gold jeweled choker, a gold and black dress with sheer panels and a sheer and black paneled top with sleek, slicked back hair courtesy of Bob Racine. The makeup, much like the images, is smoky and sultry, with lively cheeks (yes Kim, we're blushing too) and nude lips, a la Lucia Pieroni. The set, which looks to be a parking garage or the Ninja Turtles' headquarters, was designed by Philipp Haemmerele.
The French fashion house released the first images of their Spring 2015 campaign, also shot by Mario Sorrenty and directed by Pascal Dangin, a few weeks ago. The shoot was dripping (and I do mean dripping) with supermodels. The #BalmainArmy was comprised of model veterans like Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Rosie Huntington, Isabeli Fontana, and Crista Cober.
The campaign features shots of the models participating in everyday activities, the kind of things us "regular" folk might partake in, in very luxurious clothing. Laying around, playing video games, eating junk food and engaging in what looks like a hair-pulling contest. Main Street thangs for a High Street brand.
Spring/Summer 2015 looks to be lacking the traditional studding and beading that Balmain Paris is known for, but still maintains the omnipresent sexiness that the fashion house so effortlessly represents. The line features bondage-like bands, lots of black, candyland vertical stripes, sheer and shimmer and touches of leather. Sign me up for deployment ASAP.
The Wests have definitely become the fashion industry's royal family, with baby North, the world's most stylish toddler who has already snagged her first fashion deal and magazine feature, as the diva gem of the bunch. What do you think about fashion labels using celebrities and their kids as models? Do you think the Wests are icons?
