If you haven’t heard of Karla Deras of Karla’s Closet, you surely are missing out. I visit Karla’s blog often, especially when i’m missing my dose of crop tops, pencil skirts and menswear on women. Karla often creates mood boards to give her readers an idea of what inspires her. She recently posted a compilation of visuals that inspire her style and the content on her blog in a post titled “Do You.” I loved the idea of really zoning in on the elements that inspire your style, whether it be in fashion or in life. So taking a note from Karla, I put together the above mood board: LIFE edition of all the things and people that inspire me.
Kerry Washington and Crop Tops— This is actually a two-in-one. Amazing individually, perfect together.
Beyonce— I’m not explaining this one.
Brown Skin— Embracing one’s history and present is one of the most freeing experiences. I’m inspired by the richness of dark brown skin, not only because of it’s color and the way it glows when the sun hits it, but also because of strong history every Coco Gawdess carries with her.
Big Jewels— I love large jewels and gems. Put them in a body chain or crown and i’m sold.
Leather Bodysuit— Something about leather is so powerful and sexy. I love bodysuits worn by women that embrace and are in control of their own bodies.
Iridescent Sneakers— Okay, try to get the whole Dominatrix thing out of your head! I’m obsessed with these. I just think they’re jewels for your feet. I love heels and I haven’t owned a sneaker that wasn’t for the gym in ages, but lately I’ve been dying to buy a pair of kicks. Iridescent sneakers are the perfect mix of relaxed and regal for me!
Morocco— Morocco is currently number 1 on my list of places to visit. There are so many things I love about the culture— the rich spices, the bright colors and jewel tones, the architecture and decor— pretty much everything.
Women in Menswear— Okay, I admit it. I’ve been shopping in the men’s section. I know, I know. I love the androgynous look, but I prefer actual menswear to menswear-inspired pieces. Sue me.
Tupac— Love of my life, king of my heart. His music understands my soul.
Deep V’s and Open Backs— I love these elements because I think the back, shoulders and that flat area between a woman’s chest are the sexiest parts of the female body. To keep it sexy and not slutty, try a long-sleeved dress or top with a plunging neckline or a backless dress that doesn’t show cleavage!
