Welcome to the 4th Quarter. Apply pressure.
There's something about the 4th Quarter, the last 3 months of the year, that applies, and forces me to apply, an undeniable pressure. It might be the changing seasons, the fact that I was born right in the middle of it or the impending end of the year. Regardless of your motivation, the 4th Quarter is where the game is won. Get in, and apply pressure.
That's exactly what we're doing right hurr.
By now we should be knee-deep in knee-highs and wrapping ourselves in the thickest knit sweaters mankind has ever known. Instead, it's 80 degrees and I for one, am confused. For lack of a better (less-offensive) term, this Indian summer is not for me. Mother Nature, you're playing games. Read More
Life is all about balance and finding yours. Specifically, work-life balance. We live in the anti-9-to-5 age, but let's just say what that really means. From the moment we wake up in the morning to the minute we close our eyes, we're working. And while setting yourself up to have the best future possible is great, it's also important to live in the moment and not take life so seriously.
Coco Note: Still working on that last part.
I don't know about you, but after an 8-14 hour work day, the last think I want to do is go home just to change my clothes and head out again. Segue into my point, mastering day-to-night styling is a major key. Read More
I've said it before. I'll say it again. Leopard print is a neutral.
Coco Note: Don't debate me.
As professional women, one of our (many) office struggles is often appropriate work outfits that don't make getting dressed for the office a daunting task. I mean, your wardrobe should not suck the life out of you. Should you have to sacrifice style for status? Absolutely not. Read More
Y'all. Fall is so close I can smell the Chai.
What would a week of work outfits be without a dress? As we move into the autumn season, I'm trying a different style of dress- the shirt dress. Shirt dresses are one of my favorite styles, because they're super easy to dress up or down, and either way, they look extremely sophisticated. Read More
I hope you've all had a fabulous Labor Day weekend filled with lots of love, sunshine and R&R.
Now, let's get to work.
Welcome to the Final Third. Read More
I can't lie to you guys, I'm super excited for fall. Maybe it's because I'm a fall baby, but I always feel like I'm in my prime when the leaves start to fall. Although it's still pretty hot here in NY, I decided I'd channel some fall energy and go for a pre-fall inspired look today.
As a 9-5er (or something like that....who really sticks to those hours these days?), I sometimes struggle with finding outfits for the office that are appropriate but still interesting and really cute. So taking note from my favorite blog for color inspiration, Versicolor Closet, I decided to add some color into my work wardrobe. Read More
I love a good Versace anything, to be honest. Something about the classic gold chainlink print on a silk blouse!
But since Versace chainlinks cost Versace coin, I've suddenly found that Versace-inspired pieces need love too. Read More
Swank Blue. Not only the name of the label of this skirt, but also a great way to describe this look.
This past weekend I attended my very first themed brunch. Not your average Candyland or Alice in Wonderland theme, but a Kate Spade theme! Guests were asked to wear prints like floral, polka dot, striped and paisley, and/ or pastel colors. Now being that I am already lacking in the print and pastel area of my wardrobe, the cool weather we’ve been experiencing in the mornings and early afternoons made this task especially difficult. Happy belated Turkey Day y’all!
The tryptophan is so real guys, I was so weak after Thanksgiving I couldn’t even muster up the energy (or will) to write up this post! But I’m here now!
For holidays or family events where I know i’ll be eating up lots of delicious food, I like to go for a comfortable, usually knit or cotton, dress. Dresses give you room to breathe and fill up on seconds without that awkward moment of unbuttoning that top button or having to loosen your belt a notch or 4. Read More
Last weekend I attended a party as a guest of a friend. It was a chance to see a really great band that I’ve been dying to see so I really took the opportunity to dress up! Read More
This Sunday I took a trip to the movies with a friend. I wanted to be comfortable, but still well-put together and chic. The draped high-low top is a huge trend this season, so I decided to try it out with this top from MadRag. Read More
Last week I had the honor of attending and assisting with the Anniversary Gala of the Association des Ingénieurs Haïtiens et Américains (AIDHA), or Association of Haitian and American Engineers, with my best friend as a guests of the Chairman and his wife. As a Haitian- American, it was such an honor to be able to attend the gala. Since I was technically working and this was a weekday event in the early evening, I opted for a midi-length dress. It was a friend of mine’s birthday recently so a bunch of our friends came together for dinner at this amazing Jamaican restaurant in Brooklyn called Footprints. Footprints is actually a chain of restaurants in different parts of Brooklyn that everyone raves about so I was so excited to finally get to go!
Coco Note: I had the rasta pasta with oxtail, it changed my life. Read More
It’s Gala season!
I had the pleasure of attending the Haitian- Americans United for Progress (HAUP), Inc 39th Annual Anniversary Gala this past weekend, the first of the season!. It was a big deal for me, since I’ve working with the organization for almost 10 years and I was the emcee for last year’s gala!
I opted for a midi-length dress instead of a floor length gown. I’ve had this dress sitting in my closer for a few months now and I thought this event would be the perfect time to wear it. Read More
Since today is Thursday, it’s only right that we take it way back…..back to last month that is.
It’s been so muggy this week and will be raining this weekend, so for this first installment of Coco’s Visions I wanted to be a little nostalgic and show you guys one of my favorite looks from this summer.
My cousin’s wedding was Labor Day weekend so, naturally, I spent the entire summer searching for a dress to wear. I knew I wanted a dress (or matching set) in a bright color, since it was a young couple and a summer wedding. I also wanted something long (despite by height— or lack there of) and I wanted it to be sexy! Read More
