Dear summer, go away.
Okay, so I might've gotten a little carried away with the long-sleeves in yesterday's look, but oh well. Sorry, not sorry.
Mother Nature, bring on the Sweater Weather.Read More
I know what you're thinking. In fact, I can almost hear it.
C'mon, you know me better than that! Of course you can wear your crop top to work! You just have to think outside of the box. Remember, a cropped top doesn't have to mean that your belly button is showing or that you're dressed inappropriately.Read More
Two words. One name. Carrie Bradshaw. This look is definitely inspired by SJP's onscreen character. Carrie has a way of making undeniable sexy and ghetto-fabulous pieces look expensive and sophisticated.Read More
Come through Mr. Sun, come through. How I've missed your love.
It's a calm 70 degrees out today, and I am taking full advantage. This breezy, lightweight shift dress was made for this weather. The silk-like material is perfect for warm days, and you can easily throw on a cardigan or sweater (I would do navy blue in this case). If you're not a fan of floral, try another plant print like trees or leaves. I predict plant and fruit prints to be huge this spring and summer (thanks, Beyonce!).Read More
All black and a pop of pastel, where have we seen this before? Yes, I know: Real original, Coco.
I'm a firm believer that one of the basic rules of thumb when it comes to slaying consistently is keeping it simple. I like working with a simple color palette or simple textures and finding ways to make them pop.Read More
April showers bring May what? Right. Seems like Mother Nature's got her months mixed up again.
Spring is all about pastels, yet this weather has me reaching for a chunky knit and a whole lot of black. So, pastels or all-black? Yes.Read More
I had the pleasure of attending an art exhibition curated by Ms. Lauryn Hill, in collaboration with Haitian Cultural Exchange, MoCADA and Nader Haitian Art. The Diaspora Calling! exhibit was held in the lobby of the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. I may be biased, but Haitian art is my favorite art- the colors, themes and vibrancy are unmatched. The beautiful gold and red old-Hollywood style of the theatre was like an art piece in itself, with opera house and palace-like elements at every turn.Read More
As a native New Yorker, the thought of going into Times Square is dreadful enough to propel me into hives. There are, however, those rare occasions where I feel like a tourist, captured by the big lights and city streets.
The infamous red stairs are particularly special to me, so I'm [almost] always happy to visit them. Although it is officially Spring, the weather hasn't quite caught up with the times, so I've slowly begun to incorporate Spring elements into my outfits.Read More
I love coordinates. The idea and look of a matching set, or a monotone look, has always been appealing to me. Much like a romper, its an effortless outfit.
However, matching sets can get redundant and expensive. They all come in pretty much the same styles and materials. It can also be difficult to find pieces in the same color and tone for a monotone look.
Here, I'm pairing two separate pieces to create a semi-matching, semi-monotone set.Read More
Have you seen the forecast for this week?
Come through, spring. Come through.
I might be getting a little ahead of myself, but this weather has me ready to pack up all the fur and make room for denim jackets and light trench coats.
Coco Note: The leather stays. It's transitional.Read More
Day 25?! Wait. How did we get here?
This is a look inspired by Olivia's Prada houndstooth coat in Episode 9 of Season 4, Where the Sun Don't Shine.
Although this is a very simple look, it definitely makes a statement. As I mentioned before, houndstooth is a classic print and a wardrobe staple. It is, in my opinion, the most sophisticated print. When working with classic prints, you want to stick to classic silhouettes. I love that this particular coat features a crew neck collar.Read More
Sometimes all a well put-together outfit requires is sticking to the basics. In this case, a black-and-white color palette and a universal silhouette.Read More
You know those summer days where you're really not in the mood to put a whole outfit together and a romper just doesn't seem appealing? You know how you go straight for that super comfortable AND cute maxi dress that seems to work every time?
Yea, it's one of those days. Except it's February.
Yesterday I was asked if it would be appropriate to wear a maxi dress in the pseudo-spring we're currently experiencing. Why can't we rock our simple and sexy maxi dresses in the winter? @@Who makes the rules around here? ::NEWS FLASH:: You do.@@ Wear that maxi, girl.Read More
Simplicity. Such an interesting word. Acceptable, commendable, even desirable at times. But in all seriousness, why would one ever want to be simple? The word itself warns you of the repercussions.Read More
When they said beauty is pain, they really weren't lying.
I've been battling the worst toothache for the past few days and it's killing me. Half of my face is swollen, and every word seems to now have an "S" at the end.
Nonetheless, slay we must.
@@Coco Notes: Sundays are for slaying.@@Read More
Mother Nature is back with a vengeance. It. Is. Cold.
I don't know about you, but when I hear cold weather I think of onions.
Okay, so what I really mean is, I think of layers. It seems like labels aren't putting out warm fabrics for afforable prices, and it's not too often that you find cashmere on clearance. So during the winter months, I always start of my look with basics: a long-sleeved shirt and a pair of leggings.Read More
Swank Blue. Not only the name of the label of this skirt, but also a great way to describe this look.
This past weekend I attended my very first themed brunch. Not your average Candyland or Alice in Wonderland theme, but a Kate Spade theme! Guests were asked to wear prints like floral, polka dot, striped and paisley, and/ or pastel colors. Now being that I am already lacking in the print and pastel area of my wardrobe, the cool weather we’ve been experiencing in the mornings and early afternoons made this task especially difficult.Read More
There are many myths and misconceptions when it comes to personal style. While the majority of these myths are derived from old fashion laws, magazines or even icons, many are self-imposed. Here are just a few ways you can find your personal style, without limiting yourself!Read More
